Big Society Award for Public Achievement

24/04/2012
Public Achievement has just received the first ever Big Society Award for an organisation in Northern Ireland.  Prime Minister David Cameron MP said "This is a fantastic example of young people getting involved in the Big Society..."

The Award was presented by Hugo Swire MP on the evening of 23 April, at a special live event at which young people from our WIMPS project presented all of Public Achievement's projects.

Presenting the award, Northern Ireland Office Minister Hugo Swire MP said:

"It is an honour to present Public Achievement with this award today.  I would like to offer my congratulations both to Public Achievement and and to all the individual young people who make this project the inspiration that it is."

Accepting the award on behalf of Public Achievement, Director Paul Smyth said:

"Our philosophy is that we will build a better society when we include all our citizens - and particularly our young people.  They are not so tied by our past, and need to be invited - in a serious way - to help us co-create a shared future,  It is not only that they have a right to be involved, our work tells us again and again that they have significantly great ideas to contribute."
