Milwaukee Irish Fest supports PA
Milwaukee Irish Fest supports PA
14/08/2009
The largest Irish Festival in the United States has decided that Public Achievement should be the recipient of its annual award in the name of Irish President Mary McAleese.
The support - a donation of US$5,000 is to support our
'Away from Violence'
project - and is a great endorsement of this work. Colleen Kennedy, President of the Milwaukee Irish Fest Foundation said, "We are pleased to be able to support such an important endeavor to help young people in Northern Ireland understand how violence affects their communities, and to learn alternatives to handling conflict".
The Foundation learned about our work when an article appeared in a local paper about the experiences of our American intern,
Liz Nelson
who is from Wisconsin. Liz has been working with groups of young people in a number of communities, and is also working on our project on young people and policing.
Ms Kennedy continued,
Congratulations on being the fourth recipient of this grant. We wish you every success with your great work and with the "Away from Violence" program.
