Volunteering with Public Achievement

Building Democratic Communities - Together

Public Achievement offers a range of opportunities for people of all backgrounds, ages and abilities to volunteer and help contribute to Public Achievement's mission of 'Building Democratic Communities Together'.

Volunteering is the backbone of Public Achievement's work and so we invest considerable time and energy into recruiting, developing, training and supporting volunteers. Whilst we use the title 'volunteering', we feel that working with Public Achievement is about much more than just doing 'good work' - it is a form of active citizenship that moves beyond traditional models of volunteering into a way of critically engaging with, and participating in, the society we live in. We work with volunteers for a number of reasons:

  • Volunteering is an investment in local communities - the task of creating a democratic, shared future in Northern Ireland and beyond will not be realised without significant voluntary citizen involvement.
  • Volunteering adds diversity to our work- having volunteers from a range of ages, backgrounds and abilities creates new possibilities and helps us connect to new audiences.
  • Volunteerism shows a commitment that sometimes paid work can't! - many groups, including young people, see the value in working with volunteers who are there because they want to be, not just because they have to be.
