Young Active Citizen Awards

Untitled Public Achievement in partnership with the Irish Football Association and UnLtd, have just launched a new award for young active citizens. Local and international guests attended a celebration event at the Baby Grand in Belfast, at which four young people presented the projects they have initiated with the support of the three organisations.

Pictured is award winner Christoper Madden, who organised the 108 Campaign for the establishment of a Northern Ireland Youth Assembly, with Alan Shannon, the Permanent Secretary for the Department of Social Development.

Public Achievement and the other partners are now seeking sponsorship to make the awards an annual event, and to promote the positive contribution of young people to building a new Northern Ireland.

International Guests

Untitled Colleagues from the Basque Government attended this week's Celebrating Young Active Citizens event. Pictured, left to right, are Matthew Milliken from the South Eastern Education and Library Board, Inigo Eguillor of the Basque Observatory of Youth, Paul Smyth, Director of Public Achievement, and Xabier Sanchez, head of youth policy for the Basque Government.

During their visit, the Basques also talked with Public Achievement and with the SEELB about ongoing collaborative work on youth work and youth worker exchanges, WIMPS and Youth Work in Contested Spaces.
