International Fund Backs PA

31 Jan 08

Untitled The Community Bridges Fund of the International Fund for Ireland has just awarded significant funding to support Public Achievement's 'Away from Violence' project for the next three years. This funding will compliment an investment by the Department of Education in this work.

This exciting and innovative project will support groups of young people to identify and address the impact of violence on their daily lives. Four 'Youth Civic Educators' will be employed to work in communities in Belfast, Clady and Portadown. The project will bring young people from different communities together to discuss their projects and to develop collaborative work. It will also support the recruitment and training of local volunteers in each of the participating communities.

Paul Smyth, Public Achievement's Director said today - 'This is fantastic news. This is a great project that will have a significant impact on young people in a wide range of communities. We hope to convince other funders to support the further implementation of this model, and we will be sharing our learning with partner organisations locally, and around the world."

Regular updates on the project will be added to this website - so check back for progress.
