From Belfast to Beirut

28 Feb 08

Untitled Public Achievement's Director, Paul Smyth, has just returned from a visit to Amman in Jordan and Beirut in Lebanon. The visit to Beirut was supported by the British Council in Lebanon so that Paul could deliver conflict resolution workshops to volunteers and young participants in the 'Injaz' youth organisation. Injaz is the local version of 'Young Enterprise' or 'Junior Achievement', and the training is as a result of the organisation re-thinking its work in the aftermath of the war with Israel in the summer of 2006.

The visit also included a day in Jordan where Paul met with a number of Public Achievement supporters in the region, including former international volunteer Mais Gammoh.

As a result of the training in Beirut, Public Achievement is hoping to deliver a longer leadership training programme to the staff and volunteers of Injaz. This will be done through a week long programme based in Northern Ireland. For more information on the visit, contact Paul Smyth at the Public Achievement office.
